In the next interview in our behind-the-scenes series of interviews with WakeupData staff members, we spoke to Juan José Keena, Chief Operations Officer.
Hi Juan! Could you introduce yourself and let us know what it is you do at WakeupData?
My name is Juan Jose Keena, Juan for short. I’m the Chief Operations Office here at WakeupData, but in my mind, I’m just the guy trying to connect the dots.
And can you tell us something about your background?
Before joining WakeupData I worked for 9 years at Xerox, where my career was shaped in the areas of technical consulting and service delivery. Xerox gave me the opportunity to work in a multinational environment where processes and compliance was taken very seriously. Xerox also gave me the opportunity to work in three different countries, Spain - where I’m originally from - Ireland, where I spent most of my time with Xerox, and Lisbon, where I had a fantastic experience.
After that I moved to LinkedIn where my career was transformed once again, I joined with the purpose of helping Enterprise client to maximize the usage of LinkedIn Talent Solutions and I ended up in a Manager role for the SMB Customer Success team.
A couple of years ago I moved to Denmark as my now wife wanted to move close to her family. I took a gap year and I came back to study and I graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
What is your favourite part of the job?
WakeupData is a small family a start up that is growing and maturing more and more every day. As such, every day is different, at the moment I have more than one hat, so my responsibilities in Marketing, Operations and Sales leave me no time to get bored and that’s probably the best part of the job. There is always something to do, a new project to start, a new product to market and of course new partnerships to build.
Outside of your daily work with WakeupData, what are your interests or hobbies?I haven’t put aside my entrepreneurial ambitions and I have founded a small start up that has some relationship with ecommerce but with a strong focus on art and experiences with a local focus but a Global perspective. We are trying to shape a cultural movement in Aarhus that connects creativity and community.
Other than that I enjoy hanging out with friends over a beer, exercising - specially cycling! - and of course photography, which has been a passion of mine for almost 15 years, gosh I’m getting old!
(N.B. There is nothing wrong with getting old Juan! Statistics show that people who have more birthdays live longer...)
And finally...who is your favorite superhero?
I’ve been a Batman fan for many years but some might argue he is not a superhero as he has no superpowers - other than money - so if I stick to the label, I guess my favourite superhero will be Wolverine or Mystique. Wolverine because I really love his ability to resurrect and self-heal, Mystique because she is not a superhero but only because she is fragile, and I love the fact that she can become anyone she wants, who hasn’t thought of that at least once in their lifetime? :)
